Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ)

Combatting Environmental Crime Worldwide.

Environmental crime has long been a profitable form of transnational organized crime worldwide, threatening ecosystems, undermining governance, and endangering the lives of vulnerable communities. This form of crime manifests in many ways, including through the illegal trafficking of wildlife, the illicit mining and resource extraction, and the unlawful dumping of hazardous waste and environmental hazards. Delegates will explore dynamics in situations like poaching networks in Africa, Indigenous land right violations through gold mining in the Amazon, and the Campania Toxic Waste Crisis by the Camorra Mafia. This Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice double delegation committee will examine these growing networks of crime, the particular obstacles faced in trying to prevent them, and the unique solutions required to dismantle these industries. Operating at the international level, delegates will develop strategies to strengthen environmental governance and accountability mechanisms.
