International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Asia-Pacific Office
Advancing Sustainable Agricultural Innovation in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The Asia-Pacific region faces unique agricultural challenges due to its extreme population density, high vulnerability to natural disasters and soil degradation. The prominence of agrarian economies and the important role of agriculture in GDP raises questions surrounding the sustainability of agricultural practices in the region. This International Fund for Agricultural Development committee for beginner delegates will explore agricultural practice and pesticide use. Additionally, the role of genetically modified crops and agricultural biotechnology will be analyzed, ensuring that both their potential to improve food security and their ethical concerns are addressed. The ultimate goal of discussions should be practice solutions that can meet the distinct needs of the Asia-Pacific, without compromising long-term ecological sustainability.
