Prague-matic Unity
First Pan-Slavic Congress of 1848: Constructing the Slavic Identity
Committee Description
In the heart of Europe, revolution is in the air. It’s 1848, and the streets of Prague buzz with the energy of change. Delegates from across the Slavic lands; Czechs, Poles, Slovaks, and South Slavs, gather for the inaugural First Pan Slavic Congress, to cooperate and develop a vision for the future of Slavic peoples. They will debate language rights, national autonomy, empire, and the promise of democracy, even as violent revolutions sweep through central Europe. The air is thick with both hope and tension: can diverse peoples, long suppressed by imperial structures, find common cause? Conservative forces beg caution while liberal and radical movements push for bold change. Will the outcomes of the Congress shape the future of nationalist movements across Central and Eastern Europe? Or will they might be diluted and drowned in a sea of repression and political compromise?
